Roku - Enable Network Access for IP control
The recent 14.1.4 update to Roku changes the "Control by mobile apps" setting to "limited" by default. This prevents Crestron from controlling the Roku via IP. This article explains how to change this setting. It is intended for homeowners as well as technicians.
To control the Roku, this guide recommends you use
The Roku App (official), however, you can use the Roku device remote if you are close enough to the physical unit. For instructions on setting up The Roku App see Roku - Using the app as a remote.
From the home screen go to Settings > System > Advanced System settings > Control by mobile apps > Network Access and change the setting to "Enabled". A warning will come up, select "Yes, allow".
To check if this is a problem, get the IP address of the Roku, then from the same network enter the following URL in a web browser: "http://<ROKUIP>:8060/query/apps" (Replace <ROKUIP> with the IP of the Roku). If you get the message "ECP command not allowed in Limited mode" then the setting needs to be changed. Otherwise you will get an XML list of apps and Crestron control should work.
